There are some plants that just do better if mounted on a piece of cork bark or tree fern. Unfortunately, that usually means you’ve to hang the things somewhere, which isn’t always possible. One way around that is to lay the slab flat, in a “raft” configuration, and place the plant on a small pad of sphagnum on it. Another is to take a piece of stiff, heavy wire, an bend a small tripod-like slab stand, so the nearly-vertical mount can sit on a bench or counter top.
